Legendary dancer and choreographer Datuk Ramli Ibrahim is one of the most credible figures in Malaysia with his most impressive track record of artistic accomplishments. The United Nation declared him to be a UNESCO Living Treasure in 2012, an extraordinary recognition that a Malaysian artist possesses “to a high degree the knowledge and skills required for performing or re-creating specific elements of the intangible cultural heritage”.
This ‘one of a kind’ doll was commissioned by a good friend of Datuk Ramli’s, Ming Walker who resides at California, USA. The doll is paying tribute to Odissi, a classical Indian dance form inspired by a few images of Datuk Ramli Ibrahim himself.
It was an honour to meet him personally to present the artwork on behalf of Ming Walker at Sutra Dance Theatre, which is established by Datuk Ramli Ibrahim in 1983.
